The Road and Race Collection
Prompted by the great performances of their 250 and 350cc races on the circuits of Europe, Aermacchi ventured into 125cc racing with a single-cylinder, air-cooled, two-stroke design which first saw the light of day in 1967, being tested by Alberto Pagani. It proved its worth immediately, and with further development won races with riders such as Kel Carruthers, Eugenio Lazzarini, Silvano Bertarelli and John Dodds, the last of whom notably won the Nürburgring Grand Prix in 1970.
A real time-warp in extraordinary unrestored condition, this c.1968 Aermacchi 125 racer has been preserved since the end of its racing days, and retains such equipment as the six-speed transmission, Fontana 4LS front brake, Ceriani Grand Prix forks and Smiths tachometer. According to the history passed down, it was raced in the Italian 125 Championship and some Grands Prix by Silvano Bertarelli, but this has not been verified. However, it is known to have spent many years in a large French collection, up to the death of the owner, upon which it was sold to our vendor for his own collection of rare and important historic motorcycles in 2020. Now in need of recommissioning, it represents possibly the most original racing 125 Aermacchi in existence. Bidders should note some import duties may need to be paid.
