Lot 900 - Batmobile

Batmobile

Estimated at £12,000 - £15,000

Lot details

The vendor believes that the stunning body of this 10-foot long vehicle was originally designed and built for the Batman and Batman Returns films. It is believed that only four bodies were ever produced from an original mould costing 50,000 pounds, before it was destroyed It is thought that two we are told were sent to America for use by the film company, whilst the remaining two were built into children's cars for a major toy store, from where the vendor purchased the basic vehicle for 21,000 pounds. He then made major alterations to all aspects of the engine, transmission, suspension, wheels and tyres. Further additions were made by way of on-board computers measuring R.P.M. and engine temperature together with sound effect systems imitating guns, bomb launchers and sirens, plus a fully working car radio and a pit to car communication system operated from the steering wheel

The vehicle for sale today incorporates a turn key 12 volt electric starting, plus a quick kill switch. A high power, tuned Honda engine and reverse cone mega exhaust system are fitted, plus a low loss modified race gearbox. The vehicle also comes with a spare standard five speed unit complete with reverse gear. Both gearboxes are supplemented by an American torque converter transmission, which effectively operates between each of the five speeds within the manual gearbox, plus a range of interchangeable chains and sprockets for the final drive to rear axle differential assembly, thus providing a vast range of speeds and limitations This makes the vehicle totally suitable for both experienced and inexperienced drivers from 5 years of age upwards. The vehicle also employs F1 style ribbed slick tyres on chrome wheels, lowered hydraulically damped suspension and disc braking for greater stopping power, handling and safety.

The interior is fitted with twin black faux leather bucket seats to accommodate 2 children, full harness padded seat belts have been installed for both the driver and passenger, along with a leather bound polished alloy steering wheel fitted with a press to talk switch for the pit to car radio system.

The exterior is complete with working lights, fitted radio aerials and a quick release engine and transmission cover.

During the early 1990's, this vehicle set the benchmark for the sport of Junior Drag Racing and was setting 1/8 and ¼ mile records of 18.4 & 34.28 seconds with a 6 years old driver many years before the sport became popular in America.

The complete vehicle including all its accessories is to be sold complete with a low mileage professional 4 wheel van type trailer with integral rear door loading ramp.

A unique and highly desirable vehicle, whether as a race vehicle, the last word in childrens toys, exotic display item or even the ultimate item in a Batman enthusiasts collection!
