Historic Maserati, formerly of Bologna - but, since 1938, makers of fine automobiles in Modena, were sold by owner De Tomaso in 1993 and, nowadays, are part of the vast Fiat empire, along with such other equally celebrated Italian sporting marques as Alfa, Lancia and historic rivals Ferrari.
The Bi-Turbo was first made in 1981 as an up-market sports-saloon, employing a unitary-construction bodyshell. This attempt to broaden the market for one of the great names of Italian motoring history was equipped with MacPherson strut front suspension, independent rear suspension via coil-sprung trailing arms and disc brakes retarding all four wheels. A Bi-Turbo could be ordered with V6 or V8 motor of 2, 2.5, 2.8 or 3.2-litres capacity, there being both 2 or 4-door options.
As confirmed by the Service booklet, the 61,000 miles indicated on this right-hand drive entry is believed to be the genuine total mileage from new in 1991. The white paintwork and tan interior are reportedly good as are 2.5-litre V6 and 5-speed manual gearbox. The stylish coupe has also been enhanced with optional body kit and cross-spoke alloys.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
