Lot details
Registration No: SPY283C
Chassis No: HBJ8 31335
Mot Expiry: Aug 2004

This 1965-manufactured Austin-Healey 3000 Mk3 was rebuilt 1990/1 for historic circuit racer Phil Buck to go rallying. A substantial amount of body and chassis was renewed in aluminium in a no expense spared restoration carried out by Maurice Jennings of SRS Motorsport. The spec included 200bhp SRS/Welch motor (rebuilt recently and still running in), triple-plate paddle clutch, straight-cut box with Tulip ratios, Quaife LSD, side exhaust, twin pumps, long range foam filled tank with quick-release alloy cap, adjustable pedal box and brake bias, similar axle location to John Chatham's DD 300, Denis Welch comp springs and dampers, Lucas Comps wiring, extra Cibies, FIA cage, Ridgard buckets, full harnesses, extinguisher system, air horns, twin-trip and intercom.
Once this most authentic works rep had been completed (featuring on June 1992 cover of Classic Cars mag), Buck only exposed it to just three rallies, finishing 9th on the 1993 RAC Historic, and racing it once at the Nurburgring's Nordschliefe. Since then, SPY 283C has seen little action, though has been well maintained and is event ready.
Bodywork with works pattern boot lid, red paintwork, white hardtop, black interior, engine, electrical equipment and transmission are described as excellent. Included are Heritage Certificate, FIA papers, FIVA rally logbook, full spec sheet, photo record of rebuild, registration document and latest MOT which applies until August. The only 5060 miles displayed when entered is presumed to be the mileage since refurbishment. Big Healeys don't come much better than this.
Please Note: Included with this vehicle are 7 spare wheels and tyres, and a sumpguard.
