Mechanically uprated by its previous keeper with a double capacity alloy intercooler, uprated head gasket, new turbo, high-flow race radiator and Wossner forged pistons etc, 'G817 LPH' has been treated to an extensive bodywork restoration since entering the current ownership in 2017. Further benefiting from a motorsport-inspired interior, the Renault underwent some light recommissioning and a through service prior to passing its last MOT certificate on May 2nd 2018.

Introduced in February 1985, the Renault 5 GT Turbo was among the decade's definitive 'hot hatches'. Weighing just 850kg and powered by a turbocharged 1397cc four-cylinder engine allied to five-speed manual transmission, it was reputedly capable of 0-60mph in 7.5 seconds and 120mph. The newcomer's MacPherson strut independent front suspension was lowered by 38mm, while its rear suspension benefited from a new 'four bar' set-up and a 31mm wider track. Four-wheel disc brakes (ventilated up front) and sharper rack and pinion steering improved the GT Turbo's poise and responsiveness still further. Arriving in 1987, the facelifted Phase II version sported a new, drag reducing bodykit and more powerful, higher revving engine. Faster than the Phase I, it accelerated from 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds. The Renault 5 GT Turbo's victory in the 1989 Rallye Côte d'Ivoire remains the only overall WRC victory for a Group N car.
