Lot 81 - 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo HC SE

1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo HC SE

Sold for £8,100

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: 367 CGY
Chassis No: SCC082910JHD13039
Mot Expiry: Nov 2005

First exhibited as the `Silver Car' concept at the 1972 Turin Motor Show, the Lotus Esprit, which was based on a Europa Twin Cam chassis, was developed to the point where the first Esprit prototype was launched at the 1973 Geneva Show. However, the first customer Esprits did not leave the Hethel works for another three years.
The history for this 1988 model year Esprit does not come much better. For the right-hand drive car with two-door fixed head bodywork, originally penned by the great Italian stylist Giorgetto Giugiaro, was first owned by manufacturers Lotus Car themselves until October 1989. As a result, the coupe has been updated by Lotus to 1989 Turbo HC SE specification which includes sunroof, electric windows and mirrors, full leather, CD music system, Category 1 alarm and high rear spoiler.
On file is a most comprehensively detailed service history consisting of a total of twenty services carried out at such professional establishments as Lotus Cars, the Wilmslow Motor Company, Classic Performance Cars and Paul Matty Sports Cars. The registration on the car is nice too. Whilst although the odometer indicated 33,499 miles when entered for this sale, the speedo was renewed at 34,199 and so the total mileage, which is therefore guaranteed to be correct, actually amounts to 67,698 miles from new.
The current condition of backbone chassis is said to be good as are GRP bodywork, Midnight Blue paintwork, alloys and cream hide interior. Turbocharged 2174cc four, five-speed manual transmission and electrical equipment are all reportedly in good order. The MOT has only just been renewed.
