For the 1965 Motor Show season, Rolls-Royce Motors launched their new and unitary-construction, 4-door saloon with R-R or Bentley grilles and badges according to whether an R-R Shadow I or Bentley T1 was chosen.
The Bentley version - which, incidentally, was capable of a higher top speed than the Roller thanks to having a more aerodynamically efficient radiator surround - was, and is much rarer. For considerably less T Series Bentleys were built than Shadow Is or IIs. Indeed, fewer than ten per cent of the bodyshells were marketed as Bentleys before the final Shadow IIs and T2s were produced in 1980 when the models were replaced by the longer, wider, lower and more expensive R-R Silver Spirit and Bentley Mulsanne.
The V8 alloy-blocked engine fitted to the Bentley T Series was enlarged in 1970 from 6230 to 6750cc, whilst a silky-smooth GM auto-shift transmission was always employed. Thanks to both, progress in any T Series is rapid and completely effortless.
According to the vendor of this Bentley T2, the 1979-manufactured saloon has had ten former keepers and had done 88,731 miles when entered for the sale. Saloon bodywork is reportedly very good with both gold paintwork and interior excellent, and the exhaust is in stainless steel. The 6750cc V8 and 3-speed automatic transmission are said to be in good order - indeed, we are told that the car will be driven from North Yorkshire to the Midlands for this auction.
