Lot details
Registration No: 853 UXB
Chassis No: HBT7/11980
Mot Expiry: Mar 2007

A significant step in terms of 'Big Healey' evolution and foundation block for one of the 1960s' most charismatic rally cars, the 3000 MKI was introduced in March 1959. Capable of nearly 120mph, it was powered by an enlarged 2912cc version of the BMC C-Series straight six engine that developed some 124bhp and 167lbft of torque. Although, equipped with a similar chassis design to its 100/6 forebear, the new model enjoyed notably better braking thanks to the adoption of Girling front discs. Fitted with wire wheels and adjustable front seats as standard, it was available in two-seater (BN7) or 2+2 (BT7) guises.
Finished in Colorado Red with black leather / vinyl upholstery, this particular example was "totally restored" for its previous owner between 1990 and 2004. In the current ownership since then, it is variously described by the vendor as being in "all good" (four-speed plus overdrive manual gearbox), "very good" (chassis, wheels / tyres), "newly rebuilt" (engine) "as new" (bodywork) or "new" (electrical equipment, interior trim, paintwork) condition. As part of the recent rejuvenation programme, the Big Healey's repaired bodyshell (new door skins and wings etc) was repainted in its original Colorado Red livery. Bedecked with a mixture of rechromed (bumpers, windscreen surround) and new brightwork, it was also treated to a new dashboard covering, upholstery, door panels, carpets, hood, tonneau cover, sidescreens, door locks / seals and overhauled instruments. Mechanically 'gone through', we understand that the 3000 MKI benefited from attention to its suspension (new shock absorbers, splined hubs, bearings, tyres etc), brakes (master cylinder, servo, pipes, rear wheel cylinders, front callipers etc), centre-change gearbox and engine (new pistons, reconditioned cylinder head, reground crankshaft, rebuilt carburettors, refurbished radiator, replacement water pump and fresh clutch etc). Sporting a new fuel tank, exhaust system, headlamps, sidelamps and wiring loom, it is thought to have "run approximately 1,000 miles" since work was completed in April 2004. Believed but not warranted to have covered 77,382 miles from new, recent fettling has seen it improved with a "new windscreen, brake servo and general sorting out as needed with a newly finished restoration". Expected to possess a fresh MOT certificate by the time of sale, this well presented Big Healey is offered for sale with various bills and restoration photos.

PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT until March 2007.
