Almost as soon as the Twelve was on its way Austin started to think about a smaller car which would give the maximum accomodation for the family using the smallest wheelbase. They were firstly thinking of a twin cylinder engine but were convinced that a four cylinder could be produced for not much more and the design was created by Stanley Edge. Various body styles were used and in 1926 the fabric bodied saloons were introduced, made by Gordon England, with the two seater tourer appearing in 1927.
This particular car is in outstanding condition throughout and has been the property of a gentleman for over twenty years. It was completely rebuilt some two years ago and is fitted with a highly tuned engine comprising a Phoenix crank, racing pistons, lightweight valves and a special camshaft. It has won over 200 trophies in his ownership, mostly at VSCC events, and it is only for sale due to an injury which prevents him form taking part in trials.
It is fully prepared for the coming season and has the ability to cruise at 60 mph when fitted with the 4.9 differential and is equally at home both on the road or in trials sections. A very special original car.
