Lot details
Registration No: 130 UXG
Chassis No: B-464-AN
Mot Expiry: Aug 2005

This 1955-dated and right-hand drive Bentley S1 was fitted with four-door sports saloon coachwork in Empress-style by Freestone & Webb for first owner, J Sief of Rock Hall of Nidd in Yorkshire. It was during the second ownership of H William Winstanley, Secretary of the USA Section of the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club, that much refurbishment work was carried out including a colour change to the current Royal Mauve.
We understand that all brightwork was re-plated and the interior completely re-trimmed, including refinishing of the mahogany and French walnut woodwork. The leather employed came from a twenty-five hide over-run used to recover the seats in the House of Lords, the hide being Scottish and fittingly described as being in `House of Lords Red'. Interestingly, the original leather was in 'House of Commons Green '. The carpets and headlining were also renewed during this renovation.
This fine carriage has a large documents file, which, apart from containing photographs recording the vehicle's youth, has been complemented by a hand-written history book charting all the major work carried out since 1986. Today, 130 UXE is said to start on the button with everything working - and, although the coachwork carries some minor paint blemishes, this automobile does have an imposing presence. The interior with gorgeous soft leather is certainly very inviting, the on-the-road manners apparently impeccable and, with much major work already done, it represents good value for money.
Although, when entered, the odometer read 22,294, the vendor believes that the total mileage for the car is actually 122,294. The current MOT will be valid until next August.
