The Anglia replaced the Model Y, though only just over 65,000 were made before WW2 killed off Dagenham production in 1941. Revived in 1945, the model became one of Ford's most important postwar earners.
This extremely rare, 1947-built Ford A 54A Anglia 10hp convertible has been privately entered by one of our clients who acquired it at auctions here in Buxton in 2002. He advises us that the righthand drive open tourer was bodied by Ford Australia and shipped back to the UK in 1989, since when it has been totally restored by the then owner Mark Cooper - indeed, a total of £20,000 is said to have been spent on its restoration in 1993.
The current owner describes the overall condition of this rarity, which is possibly even unique in the UK, as still being mint with no known faults. The bodywork has been painted in Kingsley Cream (our Olde English White), the interior trimmed in red, the weather equipment of hood and sidescreens in black. The cherished registration comes with the car as does a current V5 confirming UK registration.
The little Ford, being a prewar design, really does look very prewar, though it was actually made immediately postwar and therefore surely must have plenty of period film and TV earning potential - production companies love open-top cars so that they can shoot the actors faster. It would also be extremely difficult to find a better example...that is if you could find another one!
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
