Lot details Registration No: M20 DRS Chassis No: KARA/010/93 Mot Expiry: Dec 2003
The English Ford RS200 was conceived to take the factory team back to the front of the international results with a Group B eligible rally car, Ford commissioning Reliant to make the necessary 200-off with 1.8-litre fuel-injected 250bhp and 4WD; a combination which could take works crews up to 140mph through the forests. When Group B cars were banned by the FIA, Ford had to flog off the batch as road cars. With Tickford trim, they cost £50,000, which, until overtaken by the forthcoming GT40 retro, remains the highest price ever charged by Ford for a production model.
On offer here is not a Ford RS200 Group B, but a Ford Cosworth-engined Kara kit car which is said to have been made on the factory RS200 moulds, this particular example being the tenth produced. The Lancashire entrant claims that the right-hand drive coupe has never been subjected to competitions and has only been driven as a road car.
Only as a result of slight cosmetic damage inflicted in the garage, the rear panel has been repainted in the Ford factory white, the rest of which is claimed now to be excellent. Inside are new Motordrive buckets and a CD. The chassis is said to be good, three tyres having been renewed, and all the electrical equipment is working. Whilst the 2-litre 4-cylinder Cossy engine is said to have been newly rebuilt and the 5-speed manual transmission in very good condition.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
