During the 1930's Humber became rationalised into the Rootes empire following a takeover in 1931. As Humber owned Hillman, Rootes got two manufacturers for the price of one, but Humber's role was to cater for the upper middle class market and for the cheaper end of the carriage trade. After the war the Humber badge was progressively devalued and by the late 1970's Chrysler had taken over Rootes and the name died in 1976 and as yet has not been revived by Peugeot.
The Snipe Imperial was produced alongside the Pullman, indeed it was virtually identical, from 1938 to 1940 and came with the immortal 4086cc six-cylinder petrol engine. This particular example has the Thrupp & Maberly bodywork and a complete and known ownership history from new and comes with the last twenty MOT certificates, the owner's handbook and the maintenance manuals. The present owner has kept it for the last fourteen years and during that time it has been largely rebuilt but unfortunately he has completed very few miles in it.
It is described as being in good condition throughout and is currently tested and taxed until next year and ready to drive away from today's sale.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
