Lot details Registration No: EC 9539 Chassis No: 22602 Mot Expiry: June 2003
The Coventry-made motor car on offer is a 1930-manufactured Humber 16/50 with factory-built Drophead Coupe coachwork (often known as the Golfer's Coupe body), painted in maroon over black with red interior, both of which are reportedly in excellent condition. Being only one of six 16/50s with such bodywork known to the Humber Register, this is always going to be a very exclusive addition to any collection or rally field.
Particularly impressive, says the vendor, is the well stocked history file, which fully documents what is some extraordinary provenance. For the first owner, a lady in Windermere, drove her brand new acquisition just 19,000 miles between November 1930 and 1972, by when this then very old lady gave it to a Lakeland neighbour who only clocked up a further 4000 miles during his more than ten year tenancy.
Since then, the vendor has only added a further 2712 miles. He tells us that the 2.1-litre six-cylinder engine and four-speed gearbox are said to be in very good order, while chassis and tyres are both said to be good too.
Apart from original log books charting all the early years, also on file are invoices and photos recording a body-off rebuild by the celebrated Scott Moncrieff establishment. Whatever needed to be done to observe the original specification was carried out during this restoration, right down to replacing the wiring harness with one following the original colour code. Apart from being of extremely characterful appearance, this fine old Humber exudes real quality. Be sure to check out the detail - they certainly don't make `em like this anymore!
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
