Whenever Mercedes unveil a new SL roadster, with soft and/or hardtop option - like this Pagoda-top example with the flexibility of a hood as well - you can be certain that the model is going to be around for many years before being superseded by the next SL. As a result, any SL is highly rated by collectors for being an enduring classic with timeless styling and build quality that used to be legendary a decade or three ago.
This 280SL, a Stuttgart-built right-hand drive roadster with the benefit of both hard and soft-tops was acquired in good condition from a marque specialist and has been in current ownership for the past ten years during which time it has only been subjected to occasional use.
The entrant tells us that, currently, YVO 468H only needs a little TLC to restore this car to show condition again. The condition of the bodyshell is said to be good, the wheels excellent, the paintwork in Champagne Gold fair and the cognac leather good. The 2778cc six-cylinder engine is reportedly in fair order and both the four-speed manual gearbox and the electrical equipment good.
The 82,000 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for this sale is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage covered by the car, which has only recently been MOTd, the latest pass certificate being valid until next November. This SL, of the same model favoured by so many celebrities such as David Coulthard, Geri Halliwell and Kate Moss, comes with full history paperwork, original handbook and manual and full tool kit.
