Lot details
Registration No: YMO 32F
Chassis No: DB63351R
Mot Expiry: None

Launched at the 1965 London Motorshow, Aston Martin's immortally elegant DB6 was the final iteration of a line that had begun with the DB4 seven years earlier and the replacement for the DB5. Having rejected Carrozzeria Touring's proposals for the newcomer, Aston Martin set about developing it in-house. The major aims were to create superior handling and more interior space. Wind tunnel tests showed the need for aerodynamic down-force to counteract loss of traction at high speed, and a Kamm-type tail was duly added. The roofline was raised by two inches and the overall length increased by the same amount, achieving more headroom, legroom and boot space. As the DB6's bigger bodyshell was unsuitable for the superleggera construction of the DB4 and DB5, the more conventional body-on-frame technique was employed and the superleggera badges removed from the bonnet. Other evident differences included: a more steeply raked windscreen; opening front quarter lights; oil cooler air scoop; quarter bumpers; chrome wire wheels as standard; optional power steering and air conditioning; and automatic transmission as a no-cost option. The engine range was carried over from the DB5, the triple SU standard unit offering around 282bhp and the triple Weber one of the Vantage giving nearer 325bhp.

The right-hand drive DB6 on offer is understood to have had just three owners from new and is said to have "driven and run well" when last taxed and MOT'd in 2010. The vendor informs us that the brightwork has been refurbished, the steering bushes replaced and a stainless steel exhaust system recently fitted. He feels the Aston Martin is now in need of new chassis outriggers and a respray from the current White back to Silver, and therefore currently classes the bodywork as "fair", the engine and Red leather trim as "good" (the driver's seat has been reconnollised), and the automatic gearbox as "working fine". 'YMO 32F' apparently comes complete with lots of service history. An interesting opportunity.

PLEASE NOTE: The vendor informs us that the car is offered with "every Mot from new together with the original factory delivery card, owners manual and a workshop manual" in addition to a large quantity of bills and receipts. He also advises us that it is now running.
