When Ford introduced the Mustang in 1965, I'm not entirely sure that they realised that they were launching an icon that would become one of the most important cars the American motor industry ever produced. In 1967, the year this car was produced, 44,000 convertibles were produced and the total production of that year of almost 500,000 units and if that sounds a low number for a hot country it would seem even stranger when one considers that it was only $237 dearer than the standard coupe.
This particular example has the 289 eight cylinder petrol engine and the automatic transmission and it only had two known Florida owners before it was imported into the UK in 1992. The present owner has kept the car since 1993 and it had a complete overhaul and reconditioning in 1994 and there is lots of documentation in the history file including the original build sheet.
We are informed that it is excellent condition throughout and runs superbly and has been completely reliable during his ownership. It is naturally in its original left hand drive configuration and the owner believes that the 106,000 miles on the odometer is correct from new.
This is obviously then a superb example, which is in probably presented in the best colour scheme, and should be keenly fought over at the sale.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
