To find a 'barn discovery Lotus Elite for this sale was indeed a coup but we would never have imagined that we would turn up a second one virtually on our own doorstep - they are just like buses, you don't see one for ages and then they all come along together.
This particular 1962 S2 Coupe was originally purchased in 1962 by a Director of Rigby Turner, a main Volkswagen dealer, in kit form and as they still own it not only can we say that it is a one owner car but the mileage of 24,793 miles recorded on the odometer is definitely correct and warranted from new. It was put into storage many years ago and although there are paintwork blemishes the gel coat underneath the paintwork does appear to be undamaged and the bodywork seems to be in very good order indeed.
Under the bonnet the Coventry Climax engine seems very much intact with the twin carburettors and we believe it has the ZF gearbox but have not been able to ascertain this for certain. The front screen has a crack in it, as does the steering wheel, but all the bumpers seem to be correct and undamaged.
It is difficult to say how rare a find this is, especially when we have two of them for you, but a chance like this may not come along again for many years. It is carrying the registration 2266 DK but we believe that this may have to be re-obtained from Swansea as, at the time of going to press, the registration document for this car had not been found. If you can't decide which you want it may be sensible to buy them both, as it may well be cheaper in the long run to restore them both at the same time.
