Lot details
Registration No: ADU 80
Chassis No: T.B.A.
Mot Expiry: None

With the assistance of the Midland Bank and £1,500,00, John D Siddeley took control of Armstrong-Siddeley in 1926 and, two years later, launched his 12hp six-cylinder model. The new car had a 105ins wheelbase and separately mounted gearbox, cast-iron torque tube and banjo-type pressed steel rear axle. The indoor 3-in-1 test hill, constructed inside the Parkside works in Coventry, was also considered to be extremely advanced in 1929.
From 1930, all Armstrong-Siddeleys were equipped with anti-dazzle headlamps, automatic spark advance and Triplex safety glass. The three-speed pre-selector gearbox, already used on larger models, became standard equipment on the 12hp models from 1932 with a four-speed version optional.
This Armstrong-Siddeley, a 1934-manufactured Special Sports saloon with four-door coachwork by Burlington, was not only exhibited at the 1934 Motor Show and was subsequently road tested by Autocar magazine before being supplied to its first titled owner. Seventy-one years later, both right-hand drive chassis and 5-litre engine are still original to the car.
According to the vendor, the four-door bodywork in green has been the subject of some renovation with wings removed and new ones supplied. Indeed, much money has already been spent on such items as having the brightwork re-chromed. Included are the original green leather interior and seats. Both four-speed pre-selector gearbox and six-cylinder motor are reportedly in good order.
Clients should also be aware that this stylish and characterful 1930s sporting saloon is being auctioned entirely without reserve, so the best bid made in the saleroom today will secure what could be a most rewarding project.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle is sold as a non runner.
