Daimler is Britain's oldest car company, being the result of a meeting between Frederick Simms and Gottlieb Daimler, Simms acquiring a licence from the German to build Daimler rail and marine engines in the UK. New Owners, the British Motor Syndicate, set-up workshop for their Daimler Motor Company to make motor cars at Foleshill, Coventry, in 1896. Since then, the marque has been owned by BSA, then Jaguar, which in turn became absorbed into the British Leyland Motor Corporation, until today, as a dormant Jag brand in US ownership, belonging to the Ford Motor Company.
We understand that the 4-door saloon bodywork and black and cream paintwork are very good and the interior, recently retrimmed in black leather with cream piping at a cost of £4500, is in excellent condition. The 4561cc 8-cylinder engine, electrical equipment and automatic transmission are reportedly in good order. The vendor tells us that the luxurious handmade Coventry classic is currently taxed and tested, is in lovely condition, he says, and drives very well.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
