These days Vauxhall is the British subsidiary of the mighty General Motors and, in terms of new Vauxhalls bought, it has become the second biggest car maker in theUK giving Fomoco a run for their dollars. Vauxhall made their first motor car way back in 1903 though, the name being borrowed from Vauxhall Gardens, itself named after ‘Fulk’s Hall’, situated near the first South London workshops. They moved out of town to spacious Luton in 1907. The first GM-Vauxhall appeared in 1928 and an additional factory in Ellesmere Port in 1963.
Progressively Vauxhalls have became re-badged Opels, the front-wheel drive Astra launched in 1980 being the twin sister of the Kadett. At the late 1984 Motor Shows, a revised Astra appeared with a new GTE offering a 1796cc 115bhp 125mph 5-speed boxed top of the range model.
This example of what many consider to be the definitive ‘Hot Hatch’ has only ever had two owners, the first driving it 54,600 miles and the second, who acquired it in November 2001, only increasing the mileage to the 62,822 miles recorded when entered for this auction. Still totally original, it has always been garaged when not in use and is alarm-protected. The original tool kit survives, a number of previous MOT Test Certificates are included, and there is plenty of MOT and tax disc time left to enjoy this all original pocket rocket.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
