Lot details Registration No: XSU 662 Chassis No: 54004535 Mot Expiry: March 2003.
The Buick Motor Company of Michigan took a major decision in 1931, for this was when the American giant junked their faithful sixes and replace them with an all straight eight range - and, in different forms, these hardy motors served the marque well for the next 22 years.
Like all US car makers, however, Buick were not immune to the Great Depression, their annual sales collapsing from a peak of 266,73 vehicles in 1926 to just 40,620 sales in deeply depressed 1933. With Harley Earl supervising styling, a fresh look was adopted for the 1936 model year, when production and sales passed the million mark to soar to 179,553 Buicks (4.8 per cent of the US total), a year later achieving 227,038 sales (5.8 per cent of the total market). 1938 saw Dynaflow motors with domed pistons and coil suspension; 1939, the steering column gearchange, distinctive waterfall grill and partially-recessed headlamps.
The car on offer is a 1940-manufactured, lefthand drive Buick Super 8 4-door sedan. The owner tells us that bodywork, blue paint, engine, transmission and electrics are all good and that the beige interior is fair. The mileage indicated when entered for the sale was 31,379, which, he believes, may very well be the genuine total for this car since new, whilst the history file contains a log book and five MOT Test certificates. So American, so well made, such good value.
Please note: There are no keys with this vehicle. We have also not had this vehicle running.
