Introduced in February 1949, the Dodge Wayfarer could be had in a variety of two-door bodystyles (six-seater sedan, three-seater coupe and three-seater roadster). Based around a box-section ladder frame chassis with a 115-inch wheelbase, the newcomer boasted independent coil-and-wishbone front suspension, a æliveÆ rear axle and four-wheel drum brakes. Powered by a 230ci six-cylinder engine allied to three-speed transmission and with a reputed 103bhp and 190lbft of torque on tap, it was reputedly capable of 87mph. Facelifted for the 1951 season, the Wayfarer gained a new sloping bonnet line, restyled RamÆs Head mascot and wider / flashier grille. While, inside the driver was confronted by a revised dashboard complete with round central speedometer. Priced at $1,936, the 1951 Wayfarer Sedan was more expensive than its coupe and convertible siblings. Available with a host of options including: an electric clock, radio, heater, Gyro-Matic transmission, whitewall tyres, and turn signals, the compact Dodge remained in production until 1953.
Finished in blue with cream upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in ôgenerally good and usableö condition. An older restoration, æHSU 622Æ is deemed to be a ôcomfortable cruiserö and ôgood for Europeö on account of its left-hand drive specification. Comparatively rare, this handsome Dodge is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until October 2008.
