Lot 55

Lot 55 - 1961 Porsche 356B Coupe

1961 Porsche 356B Coupe

Sold for £12,375

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: KVS 258
Chassis No: 115654
Mot Expiry: None

The first production Porsche was the rear-engined 356, extraordinarily light and aerodynamic compared to anything else around at the time. Early cars were powered by the air-cooled 1131cc Beetle flat-4, albeit tuned up to produce 40bhp, the brakes being cable-operated until 1951. It had a steel platform chassis, torsion bars, trailing links at the front and swing axles at the rear.
On offer here is a rare in right-hand drive 1961 Porsche 356B 2-door coupe. The vendor tells us that there is a hardback history file with the car which details considerable restoration work carried out over a number of years with supporting bills exceeding £10,000. The body restoration by Downton in the mid-1990s cost nearly £5000 and, again, there are bills and photographs recording the work done on file. The car has been resprayed in silver recently and a mechanical checkover carried out, again with bills on file.
MOT test certificates going back to 1990 support the indicated reading of around 77,000 miles when entered for the sale as being the genuine total mileage since new. Within the last 1000 miles, the 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine, correct for the model and producing 60bhp, has been rebuilt by leading model specialist Barry Curtis. The paperwork indicates that the car, an original right-hand drive model, was first registered in April 1961 to a Mr Warner of Prestwich, one of only three former keepers, and has spent its entire life in the UK.
Please Note: This vehicle does not have an MOT.
