1959 Jaguar XK150 3.4 Litre Drophead Coupe

Estimated at £40,000 - £45,000

Lot details
Registration No: 847 KPJ
Chassis No: S274406 D/N
Mot Expiry: May 2005

This XK150, a genuine home market and therefore righthand drive drophead coupe with 3.4-litre six-cylinder motor, first left the Browns Lane, Coventry, works in 1959. It is claimed that all the numbers still match and that the body panels are original, have never been removed and are in very good shape. The chassis has been refurbished and waxoyled. The Old English White paintwork is claimed to be in excellent condition, the blue leather interior recently given a retrim by Suffolk and Turley, and the original tool kit present.
Much mechanical refurbishment has been carried out by Jaguar specialists P and K Thornton of Nottingham within the last two years, there being a photo record of work carried out included in the documents file. The engine was rebuilt and converted to better accommodate unleaded fuel. The clutch assembly was renewed as was the exhaust which was changed to a stainless steel system. The front suspension as well as the steering have been overhauled as have the brakes with master cylinder renewed.
Maintenance and servicing, claimed to have been regardless of expense, has been also entrusted to the East Midlands firm, with the car always kept in the best possible condition, only used during the summer months and always garaged when not being enjoyed on the open road.
A tour to Monte Carlo last year, said to be a perfect run, confirmed that this is a relaxing Grand Tourer over a long distance. For the engine proved to be quiet and responsive, the clutch modern in feel and performance, the Moss four-speed gearbox very good to use and the running gear well set up. A planned £500 upgrading of the brakes with Coopercraft equipment would complete the improvements. As presented today, however, this is a real driver's car, says the owner, which has only just been treated to a full service. 847 KPJ is therefore ready to go and is claimed to be capable of easily keeping up with modern traffic.
On file are a complete set of old MOTs back to 1972, the current one valid until the end of next May. The old green logbook, which was discontinued in 1978, indicates that the car will only have had two previous owners, both in Sussex. The 85,000 miles displayed when entered for the sale is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage for this three-owner classic from new.
