Arguably the quintessential French classic, the Traction Avant, or Light Fifteen for those built in Slough, is also regarded as a milestone classic, breaking ground with its monocoque construction, allied to its effective front-wheel drive and superior road holding. But while this French classic brims with engineering innovation, most onlookers are seduced by its charming Gallic pre-war styling, emphasised by its unusually low stance, made possible through the abscence of a rear-drive prop shaft.
This particular example was built in 1952 for the South African market and was first registered in Pietermaritzberg where it remained until 1963. It then came to Leamington Spa in the UK with the previous owner who had already purchased it in Natal and driven it all over South Africa and Rhodesia whilst he worked there.
The present owner bought this car in 1972 to form part of a collection of Citroen motorcars and it is described as being in good condition throughout and the 43,000 miles showing on the odometer is believed to be correct from new.
These are delightful little cars and this one is tested and taxed and ready to drive away from today's sale.
