Renault has been promoting its wares via the race tracks of Europe for many years now, with the weapon of choice evolving from the mid-engined Renault 5 Turbo through the Alpine V6 Turbo and quirky, screenless Spider to the V6 Clio. The sale car is one of the latter and is the real deal - a genuine 2001 ex-Works Renault Clio V6 Trophy race car, chassis number 041 - and therefore not to be confused with one of the much vaunted, but tame by comparison, road versions. The c.310bhp all-steel competition engine is mounted amidships and mated to a Sadev six-speed sequential gearbox. We understand both items were overhauled by Renault Sport at the end of the car's Works career and duly sealed by them, since when this pocket rocket has apparently only contested a couple of hillclimb events.

The impressive race specification includes: roll cage, OMP competition bucket seat, full harness seat belt, plumbed-in fire extinguisher, digital dash and full-width roof spoiler, and the Renault comes complete with MSA Competition Log Book enabling its use in a range of competition disciplines. Serviced and on the button, it is finished in Silver and sits on orange multi-spoke alloy wheels shod with competition tyres. A rare opportunity.
