Mercedes Benz have made some of the world's definitive vehicles and the 230 models date from the same period as the 540K - need we say more. This particular 230 Cabriolet 'B' dates from 1936 and is more desirable than the later ones as it is lighter because by 1939 they weighed 32cwt for the six-cylinder examples hence only achieving around 65 mph.
This is a very rare original right hand drive long chassis model as it is one of a very small number to have been imported into the U.K. during the politically sensitive 1930's. It was originally dark blue with brown leather interior and was repainted in 1968 to the colour it is today and sold to a gentleman living near Cardiff. The 1970's and early 1980's saw the car in a museum when a major refurbishment was carried out both bodily and mechanically and in 1988 it had a new hood and leather interior fitted. It was sold to its present owner in 1989 and has been in regular summer use ever since including completing the AutoRetro to France.
It has been on display at a Mercedes Benz dealership in the South West of England for many years and regular work is undertaken on the car to keep it in exemplary condition. It comes with the continuation original log book and a current V5 and various other historical details and receipts for restoration work undertaken and this is a superb car which is only for sale due to its now receiving very limited use by the present owner.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
