1930/2012 Invicta 4.5 Litre S-Type Low Chassis Tourer Reconstruction

Sold for £106,875

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: Un Reg
Chassis No: See Text
Mot Expiry: None

The motorcar on offer is a reconstruction of the renowned Invicta Low Chassis S Type. It is composed of: a replica chassis and body, (built by the modern Invicta Car Company), and an original High Chassis engine, gearbox, front axle, rear axle and steering box.

The engine (7363), gearbox and identity plate were purchased by the vendor some years ago along with their corresponding logbook. The logbook relates to an Invicta High Chassis Saloon which was first registered on 30/10/1930 with Registration Number: GK 828, Chassis Number: A93 and Engine Number: 7363. The vendor informs us as of 1st June 2007 the DVLA office at Luton had confirmed the logbook as a true copy and that the registration number 'GK 828' was available.

The axles were donated from a scrap late High Chassis car thereby offering the correct 'wide track' necessary for a Low Chassis reconstruction.

In excess of £140,000 has been spent with what was formerly the modern Invicta Car Company to bring the car to its current state. The painted chassis is standing on a set of new leaf springs and Andre Hartford friction dampers, fully overhauled axles (rear axle fitted with advantageous 3.2:1 crown wheel and pinion as opposed to standard High Chassis 3.6:1) and a set of new wheels (c/o Richard Brothers - half-inch wider rim for racing use) and Blockley tyres. With the refurbished steering box in situ the brand new painted body (including wings and fully trimmed interior: seats / tonneau / hood) is fitted to the chassis as well as a reconditioned radiator and new fuel tank.

The clutch has been relined and the thoroughly overhauled gearbox is ready to mate to the engine. The latter, although in component form, has had all major machining work carried out i.e. the cylinder head has new valve seats and guides, the block has been bored to 0.030in oversize, the crankcase has been white metalled (by John Kirkby) and line bored to 0.010in undersize and the crankshaft ground accordingly. A new set of Robson Racing conrods are supplied along with appropriate pistons to suit the current bore size. This car has a set of ready to use valves, new rocker shafts, new camshaft bushes, new timing gears and chains, new oil pump and regulating valve and rockers which require rebushing. The camshaft has been inspected and is ready to use. All engine auxiliaries are sold with the car including: water pump, dynamo, starter, fuel pump and a pair of Solex carburettors. Inlet and new exhaust manifolds and silencer are supplied. The original nosecone and starting handle from S24 are included with the car as well. Furthermore a pair of Marchal headlamps with stoneguards will accompany this substantial investment.

Finally, accompanying the car is a magnificently preserved sales catalogue for Invicta's 1933 sales programme which has a considerable value in itself. A magnificent opportunity not to be missed.
