Although the 356 clearly did a great deal, it was the 1964-launched 911 that really put the Porsche marque on the world map - and, though constantly modified and uprated, the 911 remained in production for more than 30 years. Springing was taken care of by torsion bars with MacPherson struts at the front and trailing arms at the rear. The first 911s were powered by a flat 6-cylinder, air-cooled motor of 1991cc capacity and had the 5-speed transmission first used on the 904.
The 911T offered here, a fixed head coupe built in Stuttgart in 1968, is claimed to have done only a total of 56,000 genuine miles from new as displayed on the odometer when entered for this sale. Recent work carried out to keep the largely original car up to scratch has included fitting a new windscreen to resolve a stone chip, changing the perished screen and window sealing rubbers, and rectifying a slipping clutch with a new clutch assembly. The bodywork is reportedly excellent as is the grey paintwork and cream interior. Both 2-litre 6-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual transmission are said to be in excellent order too. Much admired by many when attending Goodwood last year, we understand that the second owner only sold the car due to his age and the vendor is only parting with it now to make room for the arrival of a 2.7 RS Carrera.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
