Lot 43

1971 Triumph TR6

Estimated at £22,000 - £26,000

Lot details
Registration No: SDO244J
Chassis No: CC65658L
Mot Expiry: June 2012

"I was asked for a TR6 that would do 140mph and 0-60mph in 7 seconds" explains Darryl Uprichard of Racetorations. It cost nearly as much as a cheap Cobra, but might be the better car, says Paul Hardiman - Classic & Sportscar, November 1995.

So began a four-page article on the sale car (previously registered 'WEE 385', but now 'SDO 244J'). It charts how the two-seater was repatriated from California during the early 1990s and restored, upgraded and converted to right-hand drive in a 'no-expense spared' project aimed at creating the best TR6 in the world. The initial work was carried out by Racetorations of Gainsborough, Lincs. The vendor acquired this unique Triumph in 2006 and currently grades the bodywork, Silver-coloured paintwork, Black interior and gearbox as "very good", while he rates the engine - recently treated to an £8,000 detailed overhaul by Ric Wood Motorsport - as "excellent". The specification includes: 2.7-litre, all-steel race engine (ceramic cam followers; DTA S80 ECU, Bosch coil pack), modified J-type overdrive gearbox; Salisbury LSD, uprated driveshafts and hubs, quick rack steering; Nylotron suspension and steering bushes; upgraded road springs, adjustable Spax dampers and rear anti-roll bar; servo-assisted (with split circuit balance bar) 12.5-inch ventilated front brake discs plus AP Racing four-pot callipers and braided hoses; split-rim 16-in 'Minilite' wheels; keypad ignition; stainless steel 6-2-1 manifold and stainless steel 2.25-in exhaust system. To create this car today would cost in excess of £50,000.
