Lot details
Registration No: SV 7159
Chassis No: 44058
Mot Expiry: June 2007

One of Britain's greatest pioneer motor manufacturers, William Morris not only foresaw the huge demand for private transportation but also revolutionised marketing and production concepts in order to satisfy it. Introduced in 1913, the basic 'Bullnose' Morris design lasted until 1926 by which time its variants accounted for an impressive forty-five per cent of new sales in the UK. Compared to its domestic and foreign rivals in the 12hp - 14hp market it offered notably good performance courtesy of its torquey, sidevalve, four-cylinder engines and light yet robust leaf-sprung ladder chassis. Commendably reliable, 'Bullnoses' have enjoyed a loyal following ever since.
Finished in red over black with black upholstery, this particular example is described by the seller as being in "good" condition with regard to its 1465cc engine, three-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Converted into a 'Sports Special' at some time in the past, its lightweight two-seater body shows an aeronautical influence. An impression reinforced by the rakishly pointed tail, flat-topped wings and wind-cheating wheel covers. Shielded by a trademark nickel-silver 'Bullnose' radiator, its fire engine red powerplant boasts a single bronze-bodied SU carburettor, magneto ignition, detachable cylinder head and cooling fan. In the current ownership for eight years, 'SV 7159' has apparently been exhibited at a number of shows. Citing "old age" as "the sole reason for sale", the vendor further informs us that "the car will be driven to auction" - a distance of some fifty miles. Great fun, this Vintage Speedster holds a valid MOT certificate until June 13th 2007 and historic class (free) road tax until May 2007.
