  • V5 for immediate use on the road

The GP200 was the last of the great Lambretta scooters that rolled off of Innocenti’s production line in Milan. Produced from January 1969 until April 1971 it is said a total of only 9350 DL/GP200’s were made and less than 1000 were electronic the versions. The DL200 followed the SX200 and retained the engine prefix of SX200 before the serial number. The iconic bodywork followed the trends of the day of the early 1970’s. The Bertone design was more streamlined than its predecessors with a new 22/2 frame and rectangular headlight. There were however significant improvements to the engine over the SX including: improved crankshaft, a complete overhaul of the gearbox ratios and improved Ducati ignition. The electronic version went even further with a 6v electronic ignition and CDI unit and these today are extremely collectible.

This very late numbered 1971 manufactured GP200 Electronic is in a state of almost pure originality. First registered on 4th October 1971 by Lamba Scooters of Carshalton, Surrey. Our vendor tells us that it came into the possession of Nigel Cox at the Lambretta Museum in the 1980s. Nigel sold it to a musician called Simon who left it in the care of Lambretta expert Mike Karslake while he went to Europe in 1988 with his band and settled there for many years. When he returned to collect it fortunately Mrs Karslake still had the scooter in her garage and Simon was able to prove it was his property (Mike Karslake had sadly passed in the interim years). Our vendor heard about the scooter being offered for sale in 2021 and he took the chairman of the Lambretta club of Scotland, Adrian Gill with him to verify it as a correct electronic when he bought it.

In the original and rare Red colour we could not see any evidence of touching up anywhere on the scooter and this can be clearly seen by careful examination of the photographs. Starting with the electrics, the GP has 6v Red original CDI 323901 with Black wire and the original electronic stator plate with correct fixings and retaining the correct Red HT lead to the CDI. The ignition switch is the original with original key. The seat is the original extended British market Guiliari with its original cover. The cables appear to have never been removed are all fastened with the correct straps and have the correct grease nipple points, even down to the original concertina rubbers at the gearbox. The original MPH is present showing 12732 miles. The brake adjusters are the original late short versions found on late GPs, never replaced. The plastic parts are also original black including the petrol flap, horncast front and rear frame grille. Also the correct Black toolbox and thin rear light gasket. The keys that are all present for ignition, toolbox and steering lock are the correct era. One needs to examine the photographs to see the originality on display here of this rare scooter. The side panels have been repainted but it would be fairly easy to find GP panels in original red paint patina to complete an absolutely pure Electronic. The fuel tap is a Scootopia replacement probably necessary after years of unused storage but the fuel and choke levers are the originals. The exhaust also appears to be the original Innocenti it was sold with. Probably best we have ever seen for originality. We understand that scooter is in fine running condition. This is a very rare opportunity for the most serious collector of Lambrettas. In this original condition of a model that is in demand we expect significant interest in this scooter.
