Lot 4 - 1993 Rover Mini Cabriolet

1993 Rover Mini Cabriolet

Estimated at £8,000 - £9,000

Lot details
Registration No: L165OVC
Chassis No: SAXXNNBYCBD073167
Mot Expiry: Aug 2005

Just as soon as the nimble Mini roared onto the scene in 1959, it was obvious that this was a brilliant concept from the drawing board of one of the most ingenious automobile engineers of all time, Alec Issigonis. For by placing an independently sprung wheel at each corner and employing a transversely-mounted engine in unit with the gearbox, the front-wheel drive package delivered superlative handling and achieved an impressive power to weight ratio.
Offered here is a Rover Mini, a right-hand drive cabriolet, which first left the Midland factory in 1993. The vendor tells us that the two-door convertible was acquired as an ex-demonstrator by his wife who has been the charismatic vehicle's sole owner. During this ownership, it has been in receipt of what is claimed to have been an extensive body and interior makeover. Said to be the only open Mini turned out to this specification, L165 QVC has been featured in a 2003 issue of Mini magazine.
The current condition of the bodyshell, underneath as well as the body panels, is said by the vendor to be excellent, with the paintwork in Nightfire Red, the tan leather interior and the alloy wheels all also excellent - and the 1275cc capacity four-cylinder engine and the four-speed gearbox reportedly in very good order. The 94,902 mileage displayed on the odometer when entered for this sale is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage for the car from new and the MOT test certificate will not require renewal until August.
