Cambridge graduate Philip C Vincent reckoned he could do better than the motorcycle manufacturers of the day and started making his own. Encouraged by the results, soon he had bought the ready-established HRD name, which had been founded by TT racer Howard R Davies, and, by 1930, his Vincent-HRD had become highly regarded as a maker of fine, hand-built machines for discerning bikers.
Initially using proprietary power units from JAP and Rudge, in 1935, Vincent started producing their own motors, both singles and their first V-twin. Bike production ceased in late 1939, though, when the factory was turned over to war work. Postwar, 2-wheeler production did resume for a while, though ground to a halt during the mid-1950s.
On offer here is a Comet Series C, a 1950-made 500cc single with Vincent OC dating certificate and more modern ignition conversion, though the original magneto is included along with other spares. The bike has been in receipt of a well documented restoration, said to have taken 9 years, whilst mechanical and cosmetic condition is claimed to be excellent.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
