One of the classic images of the 1960s heyday of British motorcycling is the Triton, a perfect blend of the legendary Norton Featherbed frame and the Triumph twin engine. The 'Cafe Racer' style is still popular today with most modern-day manufacturers including the style in their range. Unfortunately, the original Norton engines were not as reliable so an obvious answer was to replace them with the stronger and more readily available Triumph twin, starting a whole cottage industry in handmade specials.
This 1961 Norton/Triton was purchased by the late vendor in 1981, before setting about the modifications for racing and converted it into a Triton, being completed in approximately 1984. It was entered into a race at Mallory Park on Sunday the 5th of May 1985, it came 8th overall. It has been mentioned that it went to the Manx Grand Prix thereafter, however, there is no evidence to support this. It was used until the early 1990s before being found in a shed recently. Offered t o a new custodian for a complete rebuild and a worthy project, it is offered with a current V5C, a machine registration certificate (classic racing) dated 1990, some old MOT paperwork dating back to 1981, and a handwritten letter from the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club.
