When BMC replaced the MGA with the MGB in September 1962, the most fundamental differences were the employment of a unitary-construction bodyshell rather than a separate chassis and body, and a larger 1798cc 4-cylinder engine instead of the 1622cc power unit fitted to the final run of MGAs. From 1965, a fixed head coupe, the MGB GT, joined the open roadster in the MG dealers showrooms - whilst, from 1967, a revised MkII version with new grille, all synchromesh gearbox with auto-shift option, and either Rostyle steel wheels or wire-spoked wheels.
The Staffordshire vendor of the open MGB offered here, the righthand drive roadster leaving the MG factory at Abingdon in 1965, tells us that bodywork in Old English White and red interior are in good condition. The 1.8-litre engine, electrical equipment and 4-speed manual gearbox are said to be in good order too. The 90,774 miles indicated on the odometer when entered is claimed to be the genuine total mileage and the current MOT test certificate does not expire until late November.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
