BMW’s /6 range was introduced in 1974 as a successor to the /5 models, and comprised the R60/6, R75/6 and R90/6 (respectively 598, 749 and 898cc). Powered, of course, by four-stroke boxer twins with hemispherical combustion chambers and shaft-drive to the back wheel, they additionally featured telescopic forks and 12-volt electrics. Rugged and dependable machines, they were ideal for general-purpose everyday use as well as long-distance touring, and the /6 remained in production until 1976. The entry level R60/6 was said to produce 40bhp at 6,400rpm and achieve a maximum speed of 103mph.
We are pleased to offer this very smart 1974 R60/6, which represents a lovely example in need of only very light fettling after a few years off the road, though when we inspected it, it started readily and ran very well. It has evidently been enjoyed for some touring in the past, as evidenced by the luggage rack and pannier boxes, though the odometer only carries a low reading of 48,500 miles. We think it would make a wonderful machine for a touring holiday next summer, and at no reserve it promises to be excellent value. It is supplied with the current V5C.
