Lot 34 - 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider

1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider

Estimated at £13,000 - £15,000

Lot details
Registration No: LFO 245
Chassis No: AR171546
Mot Expiry: Aug 2005

When launched in 1954, the Giulietta was the smallest model Alfa Romeo had ever manufactured. Masterminded by Orazia Satta Puliga, the Pininfarina-styled and bodied Giulietta Spider was the last of the variants of the range to be announced, making its debut in 1956.
This soft-top Giulietta first left the Alfa factory in 1961 and, we understand, had been in last ownership for over twenty years. The left-hand drive Spider has an extensive history file with wads of receipts retained, the latest from lots of MOT certificates being current until next August.
The paperwork, backed up by photos, confirms that the car has been in receipt of a bare metal respray, the body panels described as being currently in very good condition and the traditional Alfa red paintwork excellent. The hood, very well made in double duck, has been renewed not that long ago, the steering wheel is a desirable item by the celebrated Nardi concern, whilst the black leather faced seats and vinyl trim are claimed to be excellent as is the brightwork. The four-cylinder motor of 1290cc capacity and four-speed manual gearbox are reportedly in very good order as is the electrical equipment and a stainless steel fuel tank has recently been fitted.
This model is the one that was famously employed, of course, by Edward Fox for the very period driving sequences where he kept ahead of the Gendarmerie in `The Day of the Jackal'. This is your chance to acquire one of these stylish Italians, this one said to drive really well. As Henry Ford opined: "Every time I see an Alfa Romeo pass by, I raise my hat."
