Lot 32 - 1950/79 Bentley MK VI Mallalieu Special

1950/79 Bentley MK VI Mallalieu Special

Estimated at £28,000 - £30,000

Lot details
Registration No: XNJ 624
Chassis No: B185FV
Mot Expiry: April 2004

The Mallalieu is widely regarded as being the best made of all the Bentley MkVI and Rolls-Royce R Type Specials. The 45 hand-built examples have become by far the most desirable of all the Bentley Specials.
When the Mallalieu being auctioned here was hand-crafted in their workshops in 1979, a 1950 Bentley MkVI donor car with 4257cc 6-cylinder engine was employed, the rolling chassis being fully rebuilt. It is perhaps worth remembering that at that time this handsome tourer would have cost almost as much as a new R-R Silver Shadow!
Offered is Mallalieu Number 31, though it carries the 1950 Bentley MkVI chassis and engine numbers. It is believed to have one of two cars that were purchased by the Post Office Pension Fund as investments for their portfolio and, subsequently, became part of a private collection in Jersey - although never registered for road use there.
The 535 miles displayed on the odometer when entered for this sale is reckoned by the vendor to be the possible total mileage. Indeed, the overall condition of the car, including its dark brown paint, magnolia hide by Connolly and Wilton carpets, is said to be A1 and all original. Included are folding hood in mohair, hood cover, tonneau cover and side screens. With 1950-dated rolling chassis, it is, of course, eligibility for a free Road Fund Licence disc.
A Mallalieu gives you prewar vintage-style Bentley motoring combined with postwar MkVI engineering and reliability.
