Lot details Registration No: TGK 193 Chassis No: 56060 Mot Expiry: Feb 2004
Paramounts were first built in 1949 at Swadlincote, right here in Derbyshire. With tubular steel chassis, Ford Ten components and Austin Atlantic like convertible coachwork in aluminium, some 2, but mainly 4-seater versions were offered, though few sold. Following brief ownership by a second company, third owners Camden Cars switched production to Leighton Buzzard in 1953. A Ford 1.5 ohv became an option from 1954 and the company changed hands again in 1956. By the time the inherited 26 chassis had been sold, a few of them fitted with proprietary bodies - usually from Rochdale, production had totalled just 72 cars.
The 4-seater convertible on offer was made at Leighton Buzzard in 1956. The owner tells us that it has been in receipt of a total restoration, which took more than two years. All the panels in the engine bay have been renewed as has the floor, chassis outriggers and both front and back undertrays. The brakes, originally hydraulic only at the front, are now hydraulic all round. The 4-cylinder 1703cc Ford engine has been overhauled, interior retrimmed in black with red piping and new black carpets, hood renewed in black double-duck, exhaust in stainless steel. The 84,775 miles indicated when entered is believed to be accurate for what is reckoned to be one of only three known survivors of the marque. The history file and documentation are as outstanding as the condition.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
