Throughout history, there have always been attempts to combine the best qualities of motorcycles with car-like levels of comfort, and Honda’s PC800 Pacific Coast model was perhaps one of the most successful. Its full bodywork offered ample weather protection for the rider while presenting a clean, attractive and rather Modernist æsthetic, while a neatly integrated luggage locker was a convenient touch both for commuters and tourists, and features such as shaft-drive and hydraulic valves ensured smooth running and minimal requirement for maintenance. Appreciated for its sophisticated design, the PC800 found 14,000 buyers across North America, Japan and Continental Europe in two runs from 1989 to 1990 and 1994 to 1998.
Imported into Britain as a new bike in 1991, this Pacific Coast was enjoyed by the previous owner until two years ago, when it had covered 48,149 miles from new. Since then, it has dry-stored but occasionally started. Cosmetically, it has benefitted from some areas being recently repainted, though there is scope for some further refurbishment. One of the most intelligent and attractive designs of its period, not to mention a real rarity, the Honda is accompanied by a current V5C and two sets of keys, and light recommissioning is recommended.
