The West German Kreidler concern secured more 50cc World Championships than any other manufacturer taking 7 titles and 69 individual race wins between the inaugural championship in 1962 and the final championship in 1983, all the more impressive in that they did not compete in the 1966, '67 or 1968 Championships. Kreidler returned to GP's in 1969 with the Dutch importer, Van Veen running the team and developing the motorcycles.
The works example offered dates from 1981 and was purchased directly from Herbert Rittberger, the Kreidler team manager during late 1981/early 1982 by a British business man entering Ian McConnachie in races both in the UK and on the continent during 1982. The machines owner was attempting to resurrect the Rudge marque and consequently the machine was refinished in black and gold and campaigned wearing Rudge insignia during the 1983 Grand Prix season by Ian McConnachie.
As is only to be expected this works machine shares little in common with the over the counter racers marketed by Kreidler at the time. Nico Bakker crafted the frame and the Herbert Rittberger tuned short stroke engine, which produced nearly 22 bhp, is described as being in race ready condition.
The bike was restored in 1998 and is presented in very excellent condition in the original green and orange Kreidler livery. Whilst in the current owner's collection it has been housed in the house in a controlled environment and is fitted with new Bridgestone GP tyres and offered with a selection of period images and articles relating to the machine, which with a little re-commissioning, could be returned to the track.
