Introduced on September 3rd 1936, the Packard Six Model 115-C redefined consumer expectations in the medium-price field. A state of the art design engineered with all the precision and panache for which the marque was famous, it boasted independent 'Safe-T-fleX' front suspension, a well located 'live' rear axle and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Derived from that of its eight-cylinder 120 sibling, the newcomer's 237ci (3.9litre) straight-six L-head engine proved both smooth and powerful. Allied to three-speed selective synchromesh transmission, its 100bhp peak output translated into near 100mph performance. Restricted by a compact 115-inch wheelbase (hence the model name), Werner Gubitz and his team nevertheless managed to pen a series of open and closed bodystyles that melded contemporary stylistic sensibilities with 'The Most Famous Radiator Contour in the World'. Despite Fortune magazine opining that Packard were "offering their caviar at less than $1,000 a throw", the Six Model 115-C was a roaring success accounting for 65,400 sales in its first year alone (though, some of those were at a loss).

Finished in cream with brown cloth upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "very good" (electrical equipment, interior trim, gearbox) or "excellent" (engine, bodywork, paintwork) condition. Reportedly "an original right-hand drive car imported from South America", 'NFF 215' is understood to have been extensively restored since entering the current ownership during 1990. As well as having its "chassis stripped and painted", the Packard is said to have benefited from "a bare metal respray, new ash floor frame, re-upholstered interior, fresh carpets and refurbished chromework etc". While, other fettling has apparently included "an engine overhaul carried out 200 miles ago in 1999". Consequently stated to "run beautifully", this imposing yet appealing 'baby' Packard is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until November 2009.
