Lot details Registration No: DYH 926 Chassis No: 45513 Mot Expiry: June 2003
The pre-WW2 EL24 mini-limo of 3317cc capacity with six cylinders, of which some 710 were built in Coventry 1937-40 by the Daimler Company, was pitched at Corporations of modest means requiring budget Mayoral transport. This was the era when the Daimler marque enjoyed Royal patronage as being the preferred choice of Monarch and ‘in crowd’ whose patronage ensured that this was the make to have on your driveway. Indeed, King George VI liked Daimlers so much that he took delivery of ten straight-eight V26 limos, four of which were supplied with Lanchester-radiators and bonnets and with two armour-plating. However, the Motor Mills and Radford works were soon to be flattened in the Blitz of 1941 and postwar car production resumed at Browns Lane.
Entered from a private collection, this particular prewar Daimler has been restored to a high standard in 1988, having only been employed for occasional and always reliable wedding duties since. The engine was only rebuilt in 2000, while bodywork, paint and interior are said to be very good and the electrics rewired. The rear compartment has a sliding division with two small occasional seats and has been finished in grey cord with blue carpets; the front, in blue leather with original wood. Included with this three-owner car’s paperwork is the original logbook, current V5 and MOT as well as various other paperwork showing refurbishment work carried out.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
