For the 1974 season Yamaha revised their trail bike range. In the popular 175 category the CT3, which had been in production for three years, gave way to the visually similar DT175, the significant difference between the two models being in the induction system. The CT3 had relied on a conventional piston ported induction system, the DT 175 gained a reed valve, marketed by Yamaha as a "torque induction system" which offered improvements in the engines performance without compromising fuel consumption. The cycle parts of the new model were similar to those employed by its predecessor, although for the North American market a high mounted front mudguard replaced the closer fitting item used on the CT3 and European DT175's. The rest of the equipment followed established trail bike practice with trials pattern tyres being fitted front and rear, braced handlebars, full instrumentation and a high level exhaust all being employed.
This example, finished in blue, is described by the vendor as being in good running condition, requiring only a cosmetic "tidy". It has recently been imported from the United States and is offered Vat and Duty paid in the United Kingdom.
