  • Rare Electronic version of the design icon by Nuccio Bertone acclaimed for his designs for Ferrari and Lamborghini
  • Correct numbers only 272 apart
  • Exceptional standard of restoration
  • V5C for immediate use on the road

The DL200 was the last of the great Lambretta scooters that rolled off of Innocenti’s production line in Milan. Produced from January 1969 until April 1971 it is said a total of only 9,350 DL/GP200s were made. The GP200 followed the SX200 and retained the engine prefix of SX200 before the serial number. The iconic bodywork followed the trends of the day of the early 1970s. The Bertone design was more streamlined than its predecessors with a new 22/2 frame and rectangular headlight. There were however significant improvements to the engine over the SX including: improved crankshaft, a complete overhaul of the gearbox ratios and improved Ducati ignition. The electronic version went even further with a 6v electronic Ducati ignition and CDI unit and these today are extremely collectible. It is said that less than 1000 electronic versions were produced.

This 1971 manufactured DL200 Electronic was imported from Italy and first registered on 22nd September 1998 by a Gary Middleton. The mileage on the 1998 MOT shows 58,125km on the original speedometer (which has been retained). It was then acquired by the late Shaun Burns in 2000, who was well known for his acute knowledge of Lambretta GPs and high standard of restorations. When he acquired the scooter it was Yellow Ochre and he chose to restore it in the correct Innocenti Red of 1970. The paint is still vibrant and the scooter is extremely well presented showing some mild signs of age since restoration over 20 years ago. Our vendor remembers seeing it when it was still ochre yellow and followed the restoration until he bought it in 2000. The supplied MOT dated 4th December 2000 shows the colour change to Red from the previously stated ‘Yellow’ on the previous MOTs.

This example has been treated to a restoration to a level of that can be described in our opinion as excellent. To our mind we can see the correct original parts in place or high standard remade parts only. Although originally Ochre (Yellow) and now in the correct Red Lechler Lambretta Red colour of 1970 the level of detail can be clearly seen by careful examination of the photographs. Starting with the electrics she has 6v Red original CDI 323901 with Black wire and the original Ducati 6v electronic stator plate with correct fixings. Being a DL there is no battery. The ignition switch appears to be the original. The panels fit well. The seat is a very rare first version Scootopia British market version of the Guiliari racing seat with extension and cover with stitching. The floor edging ‘Sharks teeth’ look original. The leg shield badge is a Grand Prix 200 version. The original km speedometer has been used which is refreshing. The brake adjusters are the original late short versions found on late GPs. The plastic parts are also the original black including the correct part numbered petrol flap, horn cast front and rear frame grille. Also, the correct Black toolbox. The levers are the later correct ball end type. The keys are all present for ignition, tool box, leg shield and steering lock. The mileage is now showing 59,124km which shows it has rarely been used since the restoration. The carburettor has been replaced with a correct type SH2/22, however, the original is also supplied with the lot. The exhaust is a genuine Arthur Francis. The chrome on the kickstart is original and showing some patina. The inside leg shield glove box is an identical replica of the original Ulma/Nannucci in fibreglass with key. Our consultant was able and had time to check the frame welds behind the CDI unit to demonstrate that this is a genuine 'Electronic’ and see the Ducati flywheel and these can be seen in the photos.

We have seen the scooter running and all is functioning, however, due to the fact that the scooter has been resting in a collection and is seldom used, we recommend a service. This is a very rare opportunity for the most serious collector of Lambrettas. With this specification and in our opinion high quality condition of a model that is in demand we expect significant interest in this scooter which is estimated realistically.
