The GPZ500S (sold outside of Europe as the EX500 and Ninja 500R) was one of Kawasaki’s most popular sports bikes, introduced in 1987 and continuing in production until 2009, with just one major revamp in 1993, which included the introduction of twin front disc brakes and an upgrade from drum- to disc-braking at the rear. Powered by a liquid-cooled 498cc parallel twin, the GPZ500S owed much of its popularity to its comfortable ride and user-friendly design, though many were raced. MCN said of it: “Surprisingly fast and easy to live with, the Kawasaki GPZ500S is a true and reliable all-rounder. It’s a prime candidate for a ‘first big bike’ and one with the performance and handling to tempt you to hold on to it after rivals have lost their appeal.”
A desirable early model just predating the 1993 revamp, this 1992 GPZ500S has had seven keepers from new but has been in the present ownership since 2006. A very well-preserved low-mileage example, its odometer reading of just 18,638 miles is supported by its MOT history, although it has not been on the road since 2014. Said to be running well, it represents an ideal recommissioning project and is temptingly offered with no reserve. The current V5C is supplied.
