One of the fascinating “lost causes” of motorcycling history, Warrior was an English marque extant only from 1921 to 1923 and offering just a single model powered by a 247cc Villiers engine, though there are suggestions that a 343cc model was also produced. Warriors were built in the Buckinghamshire village of Great Linford and were the creation of Australian-born Louis Andrewes Uthwatt, who probably constructed them in his home, the Rectory. Warrior appears not to have manufactured its own components, but to have been one of many companies assembling bikes from proprietary parts, particularly the Spark sets marketed by Sparkbrook of Coventry. Curiously, a 247cc Warrior was claimed to have set a London-Edinburgh record, covering the 435 miles in 19h. 30m., supposedly without a single adjustment.
Surviving warriors are extremely scarce, but this 1922 247cc model with belt-drive and an Albion gearbox has withstood 103 years very well. Clearly the recipient of a high-quality restoration in the past, it has spent some time in a museum and was in use for rallies until it was laid up last year. Consequently, some very light recommissioning is to be advised. It is supplied with the current V5C.
