Powered by a lively little 72cc two-stroke engine, the Yamaha TY80 was a “spirited mini-trials bike” introduced in 1974 as a machine for beginner trials riders as well as children who were getting into off-road motor sport. The air-cooled single-cylinder produced around six horsepower and was mated to a four-speed gearbox. Its light weight, precise handling and manageable engine made it ideal for novices, and it remained in production until 1984. Half a century later, it still represents an ideal machine for beginner triallers, though it could just as easily be put to good use round a smallholding. It would be an especially good purchase for an enthusiast with teenage children who are awaiting their initiation into the world of historic trials!
This well-presented Yamaha TY80 appears in particularly fine condition for an old trials machine, so it has either been restored or else has only received unusually light use. For many years, it has formed part of a small private collection and has clearly been well looked-after in that time. Ideal for display or a spot of spirited riding, it is sold without paperwork.
